  • A Bit More About Me

    about me

These kinds of posts are always fun for me to write. I wish that there was a way for me to able to get to know all of you, my readers a little better, but I’m not quite sure how! There’s a post I wrote in 2017 sharing a couple of facts about myself, and I feel like there’s a lot you still don’t know, so here’s some more stuff about me that you might wanna know! Check out the link that I’ve attached to read that post too. 🙂

    1. I’m 5′ 8″. When I was younger, I also grew waaaaay too fast. My body had a lot of fun adjusting to that.
    2. I’m a biology major at Colorado State University. I’m in the honors program also and I’m on the pre-dental track.
    3. The Selection by Kiera Cass is my all-time favorite book series ever.
    4. I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 17. I was sick the day I went in for my picture also, so it’s a terrifying little card to look at. Haha.
    5. I love boots. My favorite brand currently is Freebird but I also enjoy a good pair of fuzzy, warm UGGs. Ankle boots, combat boots, knee high boots, you name them and I probably have them… I actually want to get a job at Freebird over the summer so I can get discounts on their boots and just be around a super cute store. 🙂
    6. I’m missing a tear duct in my right eye. I can still cry out of my right eye, it just means that it’s constantly teary. So I get the question, “Have you been crying” or “Are you okay?” frequently. Thanks genetics!
    7. I still hate oatmeal. The texture is just not a favorite. I also have a really hard time eating yogurt. It’s just something about the texture as I eat it over time…
    8. I made the Dean’s List my first semester of college. Woohoo!
    9. Holographic things intrigue me a lot. I can thank one of my favorite YouTubers, Simply Nailogical for that.
    10. I’d love to see Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic play in person. I’ve seen them play on TV and they’re just amazing players, but I would just be over the moon if I had the opportunity to actually watch them play. Also, this might totally be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like Serena Williams as a tennis player! Her style just doesn’t impress me. I respect her, but I just don’t like her.

So I hope you enjoyed these ten facts about me. Some of them are pretty random, but they’re kinda fun and silly and I hope you enjoyed them and learned something new on this Sunday haha. Have a wonderful week everyone!

  • A Trip to Triangle Mountain

    triangle mountain

I haven’t been on a hike in forever. This past weekend, that changed. My roommate and one of my friends and I decided it was time to explore the mountains just outside of Fort Collins. While we were looking for a good hike, my roommate and I stumbled upon one up Triangle Mountain. According to the app we used, it said that the hike was going to be easy, and based on previous recordings, the hike was estimated to take an hour and a half. Sounds easy enough right? Boy were we wrong!

After a quick stop at Rocky Mountain Bagel Works for breakfast (which has really good cheap bagels by the way!), we were in for an hour drive up to the trailhead. Triangle Mountain is located in the Roosevelt/Arapaho Forest not too far outside Glen Haven, Colorado. Once we parked the car, it took us a little while to find the actual trailhead since it wasn’t even marked. When we did find the trailhead though, the only direction we could go was up. Directly, up. Oh my goodness, was that an incline. From the get-go, we were working our butts and thighs and I was doing my best to stay balanced and not fall over. Haha.

As the hike progressed, the view got better and better and it also got hotter and hotter. Thankfully we started early in the morning and came prepared with plenty of water and sunscreen. Triangle Mountain was a challenging but fun hike in that there were multiple false peaks. We thought we had reached the end, only to find that the trail continued! And when I say the trail continued, there wasn’t an easy-to-follow trail but we could easily distinguish where people had walked before us. We hiked through some wonderful shady areas, plenty of grassland, and even up and around some boulders and rocks.

As most would say, my favorite part of the hike was the summit. The peak of Triangle Mountain sits at an elevation of 8,415 feet. That’s pretty high up! I was honestly quite surprised that I made it up all the way, considering I have asthma, or some form of an inability to breathe when I overheat or work myself out too hard. 🙂 The view was gorgeous from the top and the world felt so still. It was a wonderful time up there. At the top, we had lunch and then it was time to head back down.

Heading down was definitely an exciting time. We strayed from the trail quite a ways and found ourselves in a valley with lots of cacti and scraggly, dry brush and tree branches. After wandering for quite a while and eventually having to do some bouldering, we found our way back to the trail and it was smooth sailing from there.

When we found our way back to my roommate’s car, we took some time to cool off in the nearby creek and then began the journey back to Fort Collins. On the way back though, we stopped by this super cute little store called the Colorado Cherry Company. They had a variety of fruit ciders, jams and jellies, pies, strudels, and tea! Most of it was centered around cherries, which makes sense, and they even offered free samples! I got some cherry taffy, peach tea, and honey sticks for myself and my family and then it was actually time to head back to Fort Collins.

Beside the fact that I got beat up by a rock, we got lost for a while, and I got sunburnt even after applying what felt like a bottle of sunscreen, I had a great time. The hike was a good work out and it was different than what I’ve been used to lately.

I will say that even though the app we used (All Trails) claimed that Triangle Mountain was an “easy” hike, that was no easy hike. There’s a lot of challenging terrain and short bursts of intense working-out, so if you want to give this hike a try, be ready for an intense one. It wasn’t what I would describe as hard, but it was definitely NOT easy. Also, to whoever said that the hike only took them an hour and a half, they must be some hiking god because my roommate, friend, and I spent about four hours on the hike. Granted, we did take time to look around and drink water and apply more sunscreen, but still!

As I write this post today, I’m not afraid to admit that I feel a bit sore after yesterday. Will I hike again in college? I hope so! Will I do that intense of a hike again? We’ll see. I just know that after that experience, I will do much more research on the hike in question. I definitely want to know more about what I get myself into. Happy trails and have a good week everyone! 🙂

  • Summer is Coming to A Close!

    summer 2018

It’s hard to believe that I’ve wrapping up my second-to-last weekend at home before I head off to school! Summer just flew by! As usual… I’m really excited to write this weekend partially because I’m testing out the new editor on WordPress and it’s really nice so far. It’s been a lot easier to navigate and work with compared to the other one. Anyway, summer is wrapping up here!

My summer started off on a really high note with a magical trip to Oahu. It was nice to live the island life and leave my worries and stress behind. I really enjoyed learning more about Hawaiian culture and history as well. The food there was amazing too and left me kinda wishing I just lived in Hawaii.

When my trip was over, I came back and the rest of the summer has been dedicated to spending time with family and on the tennis court. I spent a lot of time with my two coaches at the country club my sister and I hit at as well as with my dad and sister, which is always a blast. There were plenty of tournaments played and plenty of lessons learned along with them. In fact, here’s a couple of those!

    • When your opponent is acting like a dinosaur and a jerk on the other side, ignore that. They’re doing that to be distracting and ridiculous. I ran into a girl that literally roared and screamed if she lost a point and I learned to just laugh at that. I’ll play my game and she can play her’s.
    • Be prepared for the heat, and really just every scenario. Colorado’s weather is the weirdest. It can be raining one minute and sunny and hot the next. This summer was definitely a hot one. The tennis court tends to be 10 degrees warmer than off, so if it’s 90 degrees outside, imagine what it’s like on the court! Be ready with iced water, cold towels, sunscreen, extra clothes, and find a place on the court to keep yourself cool. You don’t want to get heat exhaustion or pass out!
    •  Tennis is a hobby. Have fun with it. One of my coaches at our country club has been constantly telling me this since I started working with him and I think it actually clicked this summer. I’m not saying that I haven’t had fun with tennis in the past, but I truly understood what he meant this summer. I’ve played more for myself this summer and regardless of the outcome, I’m content with myself. It’s important to take the pressure off of yourself and understand that tennis is a game. Tennis is not a lifestyle and it’s not something to live and breathe. It’s a game, it’s a hobby, and it’s fun. In the end, if you lose, you’re still alive and life is good. Realizing this all made my relationship with myself and tennis much healthier.

Other than tennis, this website and my blog have been a great part of my summer. I really enjoyed writing posts this summer and I typically felt really excited to write. It’s crazy to see how much this blog has grown and that I’ve had over 8,000 views! Truly, I thought no one was going to read anything on here and it’s been amazing to see the opposite of that.

Spending time with family is always a big part of my summer and next weekend, I’ll be going to New Mexico to visit my grandpa, aunt, and uncle one last time before college. Those visits tend to be shorter, but they’re always a lot of fun. We’ll be celebrating my dad’s birthday and also my aunt’s birthday during this trip so that’ll be a lot of fun. 🙂 The past couple of days, my sister and I have had to play nurse to Marty as he recovers from his dental surgery. He’s been doing quite well actually and seems to be a much happier pup which makes me so happy. Boo has been a great little brother lately too and has been giving Marty a lot of attention. He’s still a very happy little dude too. 🙂 Bobo has been talking a lot more and he’s flying more too. He likes to call my dad’s name and eat banana chips. He’s a cutie.

I’m starting to get pretty nervous about leaving for school but I know that it’ll all be good. I’ll settle in and figure life out. It’ll be good. My roommate seems really sweet and we’ve gotten along really well so far so I hope it all goes well with her. I’m very excited to meet her in person. I really like my schedule and it’s so nice knowing that I never have a class before 8 am! College is going to be a whole new world and I hope I’m ready for it. Have a great week everyone!

  • Saved the Best Dance For Last: Prom 2018

So, I’m exhausted, but was it worth it? Absolutely!! Last night, was my senior prom and I’m so glad that I went with the people I did because they made last night really fun. Here’s how it all went down.

I was in a group of ten which included myself, my sister, and a couple of both of our friends. Although it had been snowing all night and part way through the Saturday morning, that didn’t stop us all from taking pictures outside and refusing to wear jackets the entire night. (Sorry Mom!) After pictures, we had dinner at Old Chicago and we were all successful in not getting pizza sauce on our dresses!

Prom this year was at the Children’s Museum in downtown Denver. At first, I thought this was going to be ridiculous. Prom at the Children’s Museum? We’re all dressed up and you expect me to be running around in heels and a long, expensive dress?! These thoughts didn’t even cross my mind once while we were there. We had SO MUCH FUN. There was a water room and a bubble room and a supermarket and a little art studio. Not to mention there was a coffee bar with handmade, fresh donut holes that you could decorate with sprinkles and whatever else was available. The dance floor was pretty small but still, there was great music and fun dancing, so that worked out. Right outside the dance floor, there was also a beautiful view of Denver at night. Oh, and there was also a firetruck that you could play around in and turn on the siren and flash the lights. This was a great place to entertain my inner child.

Once prom was over and my feet were dead, we headed back to one of my friend’s house to get ready for JAM. For those of you who don’t know, JAM stands for Just After Midnight, and it’s my school’s after-prom party. And it’s absolutely, THE BEST after-prom party. There’s always a theme for JAM and it’s never revealed until you get to the doors of my high school, which adds to the surprise and fun. From midnight to 4 am, there’s food, bouncy castles and inflatables, caricature drawings, airbrush and Henna tattoos, card games like Blackjack and Craps, prizes ranging from stuffed animals to printers and mini-fridges, and so much more. At JAM, you play games and do activities to earn JAM bucks that you can spend at the store and get sweet prizes for. With all of the things I did, I bought this giant gray teddy bear which was totally worth it. My sister got the same teddy bear and so now we have matching giant teddy bears, and it’s great. It’s weird because I was still very awake at like 3 am, and I expected to feel wiped out and ready to fall asleep at any chance I had. That wasn’t the case this year!

After JAM, whoever was left awake in our group finished our night out with IHOP and then called it a night. Haha, unfortunately, Allyson and I both had to be at work this morning and worked until lunch and then went home and crashed. That was the first all-nighter I’ve ever pulled and I hope I never find myself awake for 32 hours again, haha. After a great winter’s nap, here I am writing this blog so happy that I don’t have school tomorrow. Yay for senior ditch days!

To those of you who had prom already, I hope it was a magical and fun time. To those of you who haven’t had prom yet, I hope it’s going to be a wonderful time. Have a beautiful week you beautiful people!

Me and my beautiful sister. XOXO

  • Things I Thought As A Kid

Things I thought as a kid

When we were kids, there was plenty of weird stuff we thought about, right? Our imaginations ran wild and we came up with the craziest stuff to explain things. I at least knew that this was the case for me. Here are a couple of things I thought as a kid:

    • The sound from the radio came from the light on the inside of the car between the front and back seats. On top of that, I also used to think that the people talking on the radio and the artists singing their songs all were in this big blimp together in the sky. Not quite sure where that idea came from, but I had it.
    • The moon followed me everywhere I went while I was in the car.
    • There was a monster that would only get bigger and bigger until it would come to eat me if I didn’t take a nap when I was supposed to. The monster shrunk to nothing when I laid down for a nap. This sounds really creepy, but I promise I was a perfectly normal and happy-go-lucky kid.
    • When you dropped your stuffed animals on the floor and they bounced back up, that meant they were alive.
    • This was more of a one-day thing, but I thought that woodchips made great hair curlers.
    • The little holes in the sidewalk were leprechaun footprints.
    • A woman has a baby literally right after she gets married. Literally right after they kiss at the altar. I’m not quite sure where I got that idea or thought, but I had it…
    • Gum was a good hippie headband. That was a HORRIBLE mistake. I lost a good chunk of hair to that one.
    • Teachers lived in school.
    • Quicksand was a big problem everywhere.
    • The bottom of a foam pit was endless.
    • My mom bought some soap one time that looked like candy and it definitely wasn’t. I figured that out after one attempt at a bite.
    • Drinking and driving applies to all drinks.

Some of these are probably things that you all thought of as kids too. It’s always fun to look back on the things you thought as a kid and reminisce in the good old days of childhood. Have a good week everyone! 🙂

  • They’re Doing What to Club Penguin?!

Ok, this might be one of the weirder posts I’ve made, but I’m really passionate about this topic. Recently, I discovered that Disney will be discontinuing Club Penguin! WHAT?! Club Penguin was a huge part of my childhood and I’m sure many of you could say the same.

From my research, I learned that Disney intends to close down Club Penguin and open up Club Penguin Island which will only be accessible on mobile devices. According to the company, they think that more children are turning away from online computer games to mobile apps and games, and so to stay up-to-date with the kids, they have to become a strictly mobile app. 🙁 I’m really worried that this could be the end of the Club Penguin franchise overall. Based on the Club Penguin Island game trailer, it looks nothing like the online Club Penguin game and doesn’t appeal to many children looking for a fun, social game to play.

As mentioned earlier, my sister and I started on Club Penguin as it was still a young game. I’m not quite sure what year we started on it, but we were around when the Penguin Secret Agency (PSA) was around. Those missions were the absolute best! As a kid, they were easy enough to complete but still challenging enough to have to think through and were so enjoyable. And when the PSA was destroyed by Herbert’s popcorn explosion, my sister and I lost it. The PSA was over and the Elite Penguin Force (EPF) was launched. Oh man, those were the days. We were also around before the Dojo was a thing and when that came out, it was our mission to become black belts and beat Sensei. When the mermaid cove was introduced, we were there. When the University was introduced, we were there. When the puffle park was introduced, we were there. My sister and I were there for the big pool party after the glass cracked in the room below the plaza. We were there for a bunch of the music jams and dance parties and Frozen party and the Monsters’ University party and the medieval parties where Scorn the dragon was introduced and the superhero parties. The stage still existed when my sister and I played on Club Penguin. We went through so much and grew up with Club Penguin.

When I got my first CP membership, I was ecstatic. My first penguin was named Courtney98. She was the coolest penguin ever (in my opinion, haha). She had exactly twenty puffles which was the puffle limit when I got my membership and I remember her first one was a cute little blue puffle. She was a super rich penguin and definitely a big party penguin. My sister’s penguin, Seddny, was great friends with Courtney98 and went on so many great adventures together. We were mermaids, pookies (penguins that acted like babies and toddlers), superheroes, robbers, band members, explorers, surfers, fairies, and anything else we wanted them to be.

My sister and I even created a joined Club Penguin account. Her name was Lelani Fleur and she was definitely one spoiled penguin. She had almost 40 puffles which is the new limit, I believe. She was also a big party penguin and attended quite a few island wide parties herself. Allyson and I had a lot of fun sharing an account. We played together a lot on her account and would switch off who got to make music in the dance club and catching fish by the ski hill.

I truly hope that Club Penguin isn’t shut down, but if it is, that will be a surely bittersweet moment. That game was a wonderful part of my childhood and I hope to share my memories of that game for a long time. Maybe it will even be brought back! That would be a glorious day. For all of you Club Penguin lovers, don’t forget to say goodbye to your penguins before March 29th. I definitely will say goodbye to my penguins. Thanks for the memories Club Penguin. Waddle on!

They're Doing What to Club Penguin?!

  • A Murder Mystery Night

Last night, a couple of my friends and I plus our moms had a girls night out and went down to Denver for a murder mystery show plus dinner. Here’s a little bit about that.

The show/dinner was called The Dinner Detective and it’s one of the biggest murder mystery dinner companies in the United States. Tickets can be pretty pricey for this show, but deals through Groupon might help bring it down. That’s how my family and our friends bought our tickets.

When you arrive at the place, you have to check in, grab your ticket for dinner, and then create your alias, or your codename. This was really fun because the codename you gave yourself, was what you went by over the course of the night and you developed a character based on your name. After we checked in, we got to take pictures using fake murder weapon props. When waiting for the host to call us into the dining area, hor d’oeuvres were served and the chicken quesidillas with guacamole were my favorite. That might be because I LOVE avocados and guacamole (which are basically the same thing)… As we snacked, everyone was asked to start interrogating everyone and that was pretty fun because

At 6 o’clock, we were all called into the dining room to eat. First came a salad and some bread rolls. The salad had been sitting there for a while so the lettuce and other greens were kind of warm and limp, but the salad still tasted decent. Right before our entrees were served, a man was stabbed and died! Suddenly, several detectives ran in and the case begun.

As the night went on, my friends, our moms, and I had to figure out how the victim died and who killed him. There were a series of clues that came with each break in between our salads, entrees, and dessert. The food was alright, but it definitely could have been better. The carrot cake at the end was probably the best. Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?

The story behind the murder was exciting and creative and the actors were hard to discern from the rest of the audience, which helped make it more fun and challenging to figure out who did it.

The Dinner Detective was definitely interesting and I enjoyed myself. It was different and it felt great to try something new. The Dinner Detective is one of the highlight shows in Denver, so if you’re visiting or ever looking for something to do when you come to Colorado, come see it!

  • The Memory Jar

Happy New Year everyone! 2016 was quite a year and there were plenty of ups and downs. Hopefully 2017 will be a better year. Something cool my family did last year was create a memory jar. My sister and I found just a regular, old jar lying around our house and then decorated it, and as the year progressed, we put all kinds of memories in it.

If you want to create your own memory jar, as mentioned above, all you need is:

    • A jar (a larger one will work better)
    • A bunch of small pieces of paper or sticky notes
    • Half of a piece of 8×11 piece of paper cut hotdog style (this is for the outside of your jar)
    • Markers or sharpies to decorate your jar
    • A pen or special marker or even pencil for writing on the slips of paper

Here’s a few tips for your memory jar:

    • Follow through! Actually keep the memory jar going the entire year. My sister did a really good job of keeping our memory jar in order and made sure that memorable events made it into the memory jar.
    • Persuade everyone in your family to add to the jar. It’s more fun when it’s more than one person adding to the jar.
    • Write the month or even day the memory occurred so when you go back and look at all of them, you remember when they happened.
    • Be detailed with your writing so when you go back, you can actually recall them.
    • Add pictures, movie tickets, maps, and other little memorabilias.
    • Don’t open the jar to look at memories until the end of the year!
    • On New Year’s Eve open your memory jar with your family and share everything that happened over the year.

My family did a memory jar for the first time this past year and I could definitely say it’s going to be a New Year’s tradition from now on. I hope you all had a safe, fun night and cheers to 2017! 🙂

  • Simple Gift Ideas

Christmas is officially a week away! When getting a gift, remember that it isn’t always about the price, but the thought. As long as it’s something that you feel can be useful and meaningful, it will be a good gift. For those of you who aren’t quite sure what to get for someone special in your life, here’s a few simple gift ideas.

    • A handmade fleece blanket. All you need for these are two large pieces of fleece, some open space, some scissors, and people to help you tie the blanket. These are always really fun to make and useful to the person you’re making them for! Finding fleece with something that the person enjoys or likes can help make the blanket a little more special.
    • A drawing or photo. For this semester of school, my sister and I took a photography class and some the pictures could make great Christmas gifts! A pretty drawing that you did or a nice picture framed can also be special and easy gifts to wrap up and gift to someone.
    • A book or movie they might like. Depending on the book or movie, the price can range, but these are always easy to find and can be used over and over again.
    • Candle or lotion. Once again, depending on where you get these items, the price can range. A good-smelling candle or some nice lotion can be a great gift for a girl or woman in your life. You can never have too much of this stuff!
    • Giftcards or money. Sometimes, a giftcard or money can seem impersonal. Sometimes though, they aren’t bad ideas for gifts because people can choose what they buy with the giftcard or given money. For someone preparing to do some traveling or a college student in need of some money, these two are never bad ideas.

You’re definitely not limited to this very short list of gifts to get someone for Christmas. Get creative and have fun with it! When shopping for gifts, don’t get to caught up in whether or not someone will like it. That can be important but people should learn to be grateful for all that they get, even if they don’t exactly like it. Happy Holidays to everyone and have a great winter break and Merry Christmas and New Year!

  • How Was Homecoming?

My school’s homecoming was yesterday, which is kind of late for a homecoming. I am definitely tired today and I slept in until around noon which was really nice. Homecoming was great!

My school does an entire celebratory week around homecoming with spirit-dress-up days, Llabtoof (Powder-puff football), a huge homecoming assembly, and the big home football game on Friday.  This year, our theme was games, board games, video games, really any type of game (not including sports). We called it “It’s Your Move: A Week of Games” and our spirit days revolved around the theme. We had Cranium Day where everyone dressed like a nerd, Dance Dance Revolution Day where everyone dressed in Jazzercise attire, school-spirit day, Game of Life Day where everyone dressed as either a baby, toddler, frat boy, mom, dad, or senior citizen, and then class color day. The days were easy to dress up for as well as a lot of fun. Who wouldn’t enjoy wearing leg warmers and fuzzy green dance spandex to school? (I definitely wore leggings under the spandex.) It was cool to see most of the students participate in the spirit days.

Throughout the week we also had our llabtoof game which is the powder-puff football game. The junior and senior girls played flag football and the junior and senior guys were the cheerleaders. Freshmen helped cheer for the juniors and sophomores cheered for the seniors. Before llabtoof, student council helped put on a tailgate and a lot of people came to hang out and eat some good food. It was really cool to see the entire school come together and have some fun. This all took place on Wednesday.

On Friday we had our homecoming pep-assembly which was sweet! We called it “Battleship” because the whole week was like a battle between the classes, like the game Battleship in a way. So clever… Anyway, there were several games that were played and there was a lot of cheering during the assembly. People seemed really excited about homecoming and I heard that many people think it was one of the best homecoming assemblies yet! At the big football game Friday night, we won 54-13 (YEAH!) and announced our homecoming royalty. Another special thing done that night was a presentation of roses to all of the alumni.

After all of the excitement during the week, on Saturday we had the dance which was themed Candyland, still tying into our theme of games in general. Even though the dance floor was small and our DJ could’ve been a bit more enthusiastic and passionate about his work, the dance was so much fun. We had a photo booth, jumbo chess, checkers, Connect 4, and even Dance Dance Revolution at the dance. There were a lot of activities for people to do besides dance and I think that helped make it a packed and successful homecoming.

I’m so glad homecoming went well and I hope it went well for all of you that attended it! I hope you all made smart decisions and made some lasting memories at homecoming. Most schools don’t have many dances, and homecoming is a special time in high school. Until next year! I’m probably going to go take a nap now. 🙂
