    Birthday Celebrations: Feeling 22

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22! This past Wednesday was my 22nd birthday! Birthday celebrations can be so much fun and I will definitely be the one to say that these celebrations were not limited to October 20th. 🥳

Last weekend, I celebrated a bit early with my family. Beside releasing the baby squirrels, I also worked out, played tennis, and got to do some birthday shopping with the help of my mom and sister. We also went to one of my favorite restaurants for a pre-birthday dinner. My dad and I both got the knife-and-fork chili cheese burger at Ted’s Montana Grill and that will forever be one of my favorites, so I wanted to throw that out to everyone if you’re looking at the menu there!

On Tuesday night this past week, one of my friends surprised me with roses while I was at work which I thought was the sweetest thing ever. If you ask me, it’s the little things that are super special. And then on Wednesday, my actual birthday, I had 22 by Taylor Swift stuck in my head all day- no joke. It was a really good day though! I started my day with a good workout and then went to dinner with two of my friends and sister. Torchy’s Tacos has been a tradition up to this point, so I definitely kept that tradition going. The trashy trailer park taco is the best there in my opinion. Let me know if I’m missing out on something else though!!

And then this weekend, the birthday celebrations still did not end. Something I’m starting to realize is that birthdays are not limited to the day they occur on. Birthday celebrations can last a week and I have no problem with that! Before going out to dinner, I went and got my nails done at this place called Nailbar in Fort Collins. I like getting my nails done but sometimes I find it a bit stressful, especially when the place is really busy and kind of hectic. They were definitely also pushing me to get dip done instead of just gel and I don’t appreciate being pressured like that. My manicure looks fine though and it was fun overall.

After that, my friend group went out with me last night for dinner at the Union Bar and Soda Fountain and then we went to Social after. The spicy chicken tenders at Union were SO GOOD and their fries were also pretty yummy. Shoestring fries hit different than steak fries for sure. After dinner, we went to a speakeasy called Social and it was a very cute!! I do not drink and while this place was definitely a bar, it was a very sophisticated and fun sit-down place. They also had a really good non-alcoholic beverage menu and I really liked the Neutral Karma drink they had.

If I take anything away from this past week of birthday celebrations, it’s that I have such an amazing group of people that surround me and I am so incredibly grateful to them for everything. ❤️ My friends and my family make me feel so special and I love each and every person so so much. Here’s to being 22!

  • Happy Birthday, Mom

So my mom’s birthday was yesterday. We got to celebrate on Friday when I got home from school and then went out for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday and had cake. It was a good weekend. 🙂 Happy Birthday, Mom!!

    Happy Birthday Mom

On my mom’s birthday, we received a package from some of my cousins in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was so wonderful to receive something from them and I’ve really enjoyed connecting with them over Skype and Instagram. I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful family. 🙂 My cousins are both working on their English and I’m also working (but not very consistently haha) on my Russian, so we talk over Instagram and on Skype when I’m home and they’re not asleep. They sent matroshkas (which are the cute little Russian nesting dolls), some marmalade chocolate, some beautiful little jars, some cute magnets, and a little bag with St. Petersburg written on it in Russia, of course. It was just so fitting that the package arrived on my mom’s birthday. It was like another birthday present!

We got two beautiful flower bouquets and cards for my mama and when she was home from work, we went to lunch/dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill which is definitely a family favorite. 🙂 We tried the bison nachos as an appetizer for the first time and I have to say, they were pretty good! If you’re looking to try an appetizer at Ted’s I do recommend the bison nachos. It was nice to be able to go to a restaurant again. We’ve been a couple of times since things started opening back up but the restaurants we like to go to have been fairly limited. I am just thankful we have the opportunity to go out and that we are all healthy.

My mom and I went for a walk after our big meal and then later in the evening, we had a delicious lemon bundt cake sent by my aunt and uncle in New Mexico. Always a fun tradition. 🙂 Kinda funny story with the cake though, the cards on top of the cake were mixed up and instead of it saying happy birthday to my mom, it was some congratulatory card for some other woman who was going to have a baby soon. Didn’t know my mom was expecting!! Haha! The cake was so good and that wrapped up our birthday festivities for the day.

I will go back to school a little bit after lunch today and then that’s kinda it! I hope that my mama had a great birthday. She means a lot to me and I’m so lucky to have such a good listener and such a supportive, genuine, and wonderful person in my life. If you’re reading this Mom, I love you so so so much.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and I will see you all in March! It’s crazy that tomorrow is already going to be March.

  • 21!! Almost…

This weekend has been such a fun weekend, mostly because my family and I decided to celebrate my 21st birthday! I officially turn 21 on October 20th (this Tuesday) but we decided to celebrate a little bit early since I won’t be home on my actual birthday because of school.

Friday, my mom and sister treated me to Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks after I finished my macroeconomics recitation which is always a good time. I really like their spicy chicken sandwich with pepper jack cheese. Yummy! 🙂 Definitely not the most healthy meal but it tasted good and that’s what matters haha. The rest of Friday was spent doing a lot of homework just so I could spend more time doing other things over the weekend.

Yesterday morning, I worked out and then my dad and I went to pick up my cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes. My aunt and uncle are always so sweet to get me a cake for my birthday. I love the tradition and I especially love the cream cheese frosting on Nothing Bundt Cakes. It’s so sweet but so good. I went with a pumpkin spice cake, because who wouldn’t in the fall? It was a super pretty cake and I’m very thankful that my aunt and uncle think about me. I just wish they could be here to enjoy it with us. 🙂 We played tennis yesterday and then later in the day, my sister and I got Clubhouse Games on our Switch and practically played that for the rest of the day. Clubhouse Games basically just has a bunch of games like mancala, checkers, chess, and Yatzhee. Very classical but super fun!

Saturday night, we went to Ted’s Montana Grill, one of my favorite restaurants and my mom let me try some of her margarita. Yes, I’m technically still 20 but I’m so close to 21, we figured it was ok. Anyway, 10/10 do not recommend tequila. I like the lemony-lime taste of margaritas but the alcohol part I’m less happy about. Dinner was great and back at home, we had cake and I tried another tiny amount of alcohol, this time Baileys. Again, 10/10 do not recommend. I hated the burning feeling it gave me in the throat. The taste itself wasn’t horrible but I just think I’m never really going to be that much of a drinker and that’s ok! I know that alcohol typically tends to be a theme when people turn 21 and I’ve just never been that interested or curious. I was yesterday for a little bit but I think I confirmed my theories and know that I just won’t be doing what a lot of other kids my age are doing and I’m perfectly happy with that.

Sunday morning, my mom and I did some grocery shopping before heading back to school and I got my gifts from my family. Beside the cute new pair of boots I got, I’m really excited to play around with my new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. It’s such a cute little thing and I’m most excited to use it to track my workouts and see how active I am, especially doing online school for the most part.

More than anything, I was just happy to spend some good time with my family and friends this past weekend to celebrate something special. Birthdays are always fun but they mostly remind me of how loved and supported I am and it really means a lot to me. I don’t say that to brag or make an attempt at showing how amazing my life is, but I say that because sometimes we struggle to feel loved and appreciated, and it’s during special celebrations like this that I’m reminded of how wonderful my family is and how much they mean to me.

I hope you all have a wonderful week! Cheers to (almost) being 21!
