  • Positivity is Key

    positivity is key

As many of you know, last week was a tough week for my family. With the loss of Marty, it has been tough to stay optimistic. But through writing and talking about my feelings, I’m coming back to my more positive self. In general, I’ve noticed that our world has become a more negative place. Positivity is key if you’re looking for success, progress, and overall happiness. And to me, becoming a more positive person comes from a couple of different things:

    1. Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” With this Bible verse in mind, I just know that different things in life might just might suck, but ultimately, God has plans to make me a better person and bring me closer to Him. All that happens is meant to happen and it will all be okay in the end.
    2. Count the things you have to be thankful for. I think becoming a more positive person is all about perspective and when I say that, I mean that we need to recognize the things we have in life that others may not be as fortunate to have. Remembering this allows me to be grateful for the wonderful life I’ve been gifted and stay positive.
    3. See the alternatives. There may be times in life where you’re faced with a difficult situation. Maybe your car broke down. Maybe you failed that chem exam. Maybe worse happened. With growing your individual positivity, there are many different ways to look at a situation. Looking at the chemistry exam example, maybe you did fail the exam. But you will learn from your mistakes and become a smarter person from that. Perspective comes in here again. Be thankful that you have the opportunity to be taking a chemistry exam and learning to become whatever it is that you want to become. Things could be much worse, and unfortunately there are some people in the world that have it much worse than you do. Be good to yourself and be good to others.
    4. Be kind to yourself. As a perfectionist, this can be difficult for myself when I underperform, but I’m learning how to work through that. It is important to be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to take study breaks or work breaks. Meditate, allow yourself to have a cupcake or piece of chocolate every once in a while. Celebrate the little bits of progress. Being kinder to yourself will allow you to trust more in your own progress within the different parts of your life.
    5. Pay less attention to the negative thoughts in your head. This can be a tough one too because I feel like society is so hardwired to be negative nowadays. Don’t do this. You can’t do that. Any negative thought can be altered into something positive and that’s just what you need to do with it. Let’s say I’m really struggling to hit backhands one day when I’m out hitting with my dad and sister. Instead of saying, “I can’t hit backhands. I suck,” it would be much better for my own mental health and tennis game to say, “I’ll get this next backhand in,” or visualize what a good backhand is going to look like. If you can train your brain to alter the negative thoughts, you’re going to find much more success and happiness with what you do.

I’m going to end this post with a quote that I want you all to keep in mind this week.

We become what we think about.

    Emily Nightingale

And it’s so true! Positive thinking leads to positive people that leads to more positive results. Positivity is key everyone. I understand being realistic but I believe that being realistic comes with positivity. Have a good week everyone and I’ll see you next Sunday.

  • Here Comes Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is happening this Thursday! AHH! It feels like holidays are coming faster and faster every year. Maybe it’s just me… Anyway, Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect on everything we have to be thankful for. I haven’t done an acrostic poem/compilation of quotes in a while, and so now is a good time to do that.

T- The happiest people do not have the best of everything. They make the best of everything they have.

H- Harvey Mackay once said, “None of us got to where we are alone. Whether the assistance we received was obvious or subtle, acknowledging someone’s help is a big part of understanding the importance of saying thank you.”

A- “At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” -Albert Schweitzer

N- “No matter what our circumstances, we can find a reason to be thankful.” –Dr. David Jeremiah

K- Kay Arthur once said, “God is in control, and therefore in EVERYTHING I can give thanks – not because of the situation but because of the One who directs and rules over it.”

S- “Sincerely giving thanks not only helps us recognize our blessings, but it also unlocks the doors of heaven.” -Thomas S. Monson

Don’t forget that Thanksgiving isn’t the only day you should give thanks for your lives. Be grateful every day for all you have. Have a wonderful week and a great Thanksgiving! 🙂

  • Happy Birthday America- Freedom Quotes

I know that it isn’t the 4th of July yet, but it is tomorrow so I might as well get something out about it! July 4, 1776 Americans declared their independence from Great Britain. Since that day, our wonderful country has developed and evolved to become the strong, amazing, and beautiful country it is. Here are some quotes to commemorate our nation’s birth and our independence.

F- “Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.” -Dwight Eisenhower

R- Robert J. McCracken said, “We on this continent should never forget that men first crossed the Atlantic not to find soil for their ploughs but to secure liberty for their souls.”

E- Elbert Hubbard once said, “Freedom cannot be bestowed – it must be achieved.”

E- Edward Abbey: “Freedom begins between the ears.”

D- Dwight Eisenhower said, “To be true to one’s own freedom is, in essence, to honor and respect the freedom of all others.”

O- “Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation and freedom in all just pursuits.” – Thomas Jefferson

M- “Man is free at the moment he wishes to free.” -Voltaire

I hope that you all have a wonderful, safe rest of your weekend and a great 4th of July tomorrow. 🙂

  • Friends

Friends are a super important part of your life. They support you, appreciate you, care for you, make you laugh and they can even make you cry. These people that you share your life with are so special and you should do your best to keep a strong and healthy relationship with them. Here are a few quotes that I believe define friendship:

F- Friendship is the union of spirits, a marriage of hearts, and the bond of thereof virtue. -Unknown

R- Respect you. Friends are happy with who you are and respect you for the person you are and who you want to become.

I- In life, we never lose friends, we just learn who the true ones are. -Unknown

E- Everyone hears what you have to say. Friends listen to what you have to say. Best friends listen to what you don’t say! -Anonymous

N- Nouwen (Richard Nouwen) once said, “When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving us advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen to rather share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.”

D- Distance could not tear us apart. We are best friends, connected by the heart.

I hope you enjoyed these few little quotes about friendship. These would be wonderful to share with your friends and something sweet to share and bring a little more happiness to their day. Have a wonderful week! 🙂

  • Patience

Patience is something very important that I’ve had to learn to use and work with for about the past four months since I was put in my boot after fracturing a pesky little bone under my big toe. It can be a tough thing to understand but in the long run, hopefully the results are good. Here’s a compilation of quotes and my own comments on what patience is.

P- “Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” -John Quincy Adams

A- “Always remember: Your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come.” -Anonymous

T- “Two of the hardest tests in life: The patience to wait for the right moment and the courage to accept that you’ve waited for nothing.” -Unknown

I- “If our greatest hungers were to be granted as easily as our bodily needs, we certainly would never be able to achieve the noble feelings of friendship and love. Patience will make the banquet of life ever so much more resplendent.” -Anne Austin

E- Endurance under thorny circumstances and good-natured tolerance of difficulties define patience.

N- Never give up. July 1st was the day I had to put my big black boot on and it’s almost November. I’ll admit that sometimes I’ve wanted to take the boot off and go back to what I was doing or even just give up and become hopeless. All of this for a ridiculously tiny fracture?!? I do get frustrated and annoyed with it sometimes. From all of this I’ve learned that these things take time and I have to stay positive and trust that my sesamoid bone will eventually heal fully and correctly. I have to never give up.

C- C.S. Lewis once said, “Faith is the art of holding on to things in spite of your changing moods and circumstances.”

E- Everything. Patience is everything. If a person cannot learn to wait and let life take them on their destined path, then they cannot do anything at all.

  • It’s Your Choice

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” In other words, no one can make you feel worthless or weak unless you give them your permission. This is a quote that most of us can relate to on a daily basis whether it’s at home, in school, on the streets, or at sports practices.

As humans, many of us pick up the negative things that others say about us and we take their words as insults. For example, your math class took a test and you got back your results. After analyzing your graded test, you found out that you received the lowest grade in the class. Some of your peers remarked, “That test was so easy! You must’ve been pretty dumb not to get at least a B on that test!” You were insulted by this. You had studied and prepared so much but none of that helped. The words that your unkind peers threw into the air were taken very personally by you. From this, your self-esteem and confidence decreased extremely. When someone says something that could be insulting or hurtful, people have the choice to let it go and move on or take it in, lower their own ranks, and destroy themselves. If you know who you are as a person, your goals in life, and your achievements so far, even if they are small, you should be strong enough to ignore frustrating comments.

Certain situations with family, living conditions, environment, and so on can make a person feel inferior as well. You might have a rough life with many obstacles to overcome or a financially free but hard-working, famous life. In either situation, you have the choice to make the best of what you have and keep a positive attitude about your life.

A very knowledgeable volleyball coach once told me that your confidence is your confidence. Your coach might yell and scream and throw their clipboard at you, but they can’t take your confidence away. That’s something that only you can take away from yourself. You can also build up your confidence.

I do support Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” It’s truly your choice to let someone’s silly actions or words bother you and become inferior. You also have the choice to let it slide, remember who you are, and maybe use their words to motivate you to become a better person. It’s your choice.

    It's Your Choice
