  • These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

a few of my favorite things

Lately, I’ve been thinking about changing the name of this blog. It’s always been about my favorite things, ranging from the activities and sports I’ve participated in to my favorite animals and things to do but I feel like it’s also about so much more than a few of my favorite things. It’s really become a place for me to share all of the things I like and share a little about my life. There hasn’t been much poetry around here lately, so I thought I’d just share a poem I wrote recently about a few of my favorite things.

Snow sitting on trees during the cold months of winter,
And fuzzy warm socks and boots.
Disney movies, I sure love them all,
    And strawberries, pineapple, all fruits.

My family, my dogs, and my bird,
Do sure mean a lot to me.
    Hawaii, New Mexico, Colorado,
Are all places I love to be.

Fuzzy yellow balls and Wilson rackets,
Doubles with my sister for sure.
    Dance and volleyball too,
My love for reading has no cure.

    Writing blogs for my website,
    Studying biology too,
    Editing papers for others,
    Also the color pastel blue.

    Spending time with family,
    Making honest, loyal friends,
    Being healthy and happy,
    Loving life til it ends.

These are a few of my favorite things,
This list could go on and on.
Each day is a blessing and I’m thankful for all,
And this beautiful Earth we all live upon.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and take some time to think about a few of your own favorite things! If you also think I should change the name of my blog, feel free to leave an idea in the comments or reach out to me on my contact page. As always, have a wonderful week! 🙂

  • teenage girls, this one’s for you

    dear teenage girls of today,
the clothes we wear do not define us as a person.
our weights and sizes should not cause us to hate ourselves.

    our hair colors,
    our eye colors,
    our body types,
our money, do not determine whether we are perfect or worthy of society’s acceptance.
society says to “be ourselves” but then shuns us for being ourselves the wrong way.

there is no wrong way to be the beautiful girl you are.
there are no amount of likes or followers on social media that should dictate your self-confidence.
there is nothing that shouldn’t make you feel worthy, welcome, or beautiful in today’s society.

teenage girls of today, there is no reason to scramble for people to like you. there is no reason for you to compare yourselves to others. there is no reason to hide behind a fake person, a mask.
be who you want to be, don’t search for approval. you are an individual, you are beautiful, and you are amazing. 🙂

    dear teenage girls of today...

  • Spring is Coming

Spring will be here in a couple weeks. The days are getting longer again and the weather is getting warmer. The flowers and trees will be budding soon and then summer will be here before we know it! I haven’t written or shared any poetry in a while and I felt like sharing my favorite poem about spring. This was poem written by the amazing and talented Emily Dickinson. It is titled “A Light Exists in Spring”. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

    A Light exists in Spring
    Not present on the Year
    At any other period –
    When March is scarcely here

    A Color stands abroad
    On Solitary Fields
    That Science cannot overtake
    But Human Nature feels.

    It waits upon the Lawn,
    It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
    It almost speaks to you.

    Then as Horizons step
    Or Noons report away
    Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay –

    A quality of loss
    Affecting our Content
    As Trade had suddenly encroached
    Upon a Sacrament.

Although spring is not my favorite season, I do really enjoy the warmer weather. Getting to see life return to the earth is a beautiful thing too. If I’m being honest here, winter is actually my favorite season. I love it the most because of the gentle, soft beauty of snow and the idea of bundling up in a warm blanket by the fire or just in my bed to read or watch movies on my iPad. I love wearing warm sweaters and cardigans and fuzzy socks and boots. Feeling warm and cozy after coming in from walking around in the chilling snow is my favorite feeling. Walking outside in the snow and feeling the crunch under my boots excites me. The chilly feeling you get on the tip of your nose after being outside for a while and the crisp, clean smell of the air calms me and makes me feel happy.

Winter is pretty great, but sadly all things must come to an end. Spring is coming and it’ll be good for a change. Have a wonderful week everyone! 🙂

  • Empowered Poem

I played in a tennis tournament yesterday that went really well. I feel like I’ve been struggling a bit lately to feel confident in my playing, but yesterday helped boost that. I may have won three of my matches and lost three of my matches, but everything I learned will help me improve my actual game as well as my mental game.

It’s also really awesome that fall is starting to actually show up on the trees here in Colorado. We had a nice, rainy day this week and I got to wear a cozy sweater and feel all bundled up. Winter is definitely my favorite season, but fall comes in at a close second.

Anyways, I’ve been able to do a lot of writing in my AP Lang class and we recently were able to write poems based off of pictures we took of words throughout the school. Here’s what I came up with. Enjoy!

No one can make you inferior without your consent
You don’t need a reason to help people,
    Learn your weaknesses and fears.
Embrace them, then nobody will be able to use them.
    Everyone is a genius,
so be kind and love others.
Your silent presence is more powerful than a million empty words.
    You are worthy.
    You empowered.

Sorry for such a short post this Sunday. Poems are fun to write and when you have an idea of what you want to write, they’re quick and easy to get done. Gotta love writing! 🙂 Have a great week!

  • Summer’s End

The season of summer will end on Tuesday this week. Time flies by! My sister had this poem on her website not too long ago and I thought it would be good to use for this occasion. Here’s a poem to celebrate summer’s end, enjoy!

The season of school vacation and fun,
And the big and bright, big sun,
A time to relax and play,
Longer is the length of the day.

    Walking on the beach,
    Or eating a juicy peach,
    Biking on a mountain trail,
Or aboard a cruise about to sail,

The grass and trees are beautiful and green,
When camping it’s a beautiful scene,
The thunder rumbles and the lightning crashes,
There are tennis matches and 100 meter dashes.

And even when the summer is gone,
It never stays away for long,
And even though the tan lines fade away,
The summer memories will always stay.

    Summer's End

Goodbye summer, hello fall. I hope you all had a wonderful summer and look forward to the upcoming season. I hope school is also going well for all of you that are in school and you’re studying hard and having fun. Have a good week!

  • Happy Father’s Day!

Father’s Day is here and to celebrate this day for the dads, here’s a poem. Enjoy! 🙂

    Dads are pretty special,
    They really make your day.
They help you learn to play sports,
And are your head cheerleader when you play.

    Happy Father's Day!

Dads support you when you need them,
    And help you with homework.
    Stay cool, calm, and collected,
They bring a big smile when they come home from work.

    Happy Father's Day!

So Happy Father’s Day to all you dads out there,
We all love you and want you to know we care,
Have a good and relaxing day,
    Happy Father’s Day!

This great day is a wonderful  time to get out and do something fun with your dad. For example, my sister and I usually play tennis on Father’s Day and then go where our dad wants to go for dinner.  Make memories, enjoy yourselves, and show your dads how much you care. Once again, Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads out there. And to my dad personally, I just want to say thanks for everything and I love you! 🙂

Happy Father’s Day! Happy Father’s Day! Happy wi love you daddy! You’re the best coach and role model anyone could ask for. Love you lots!

  • Halloween is Coming Up!

Halloween is a holiday enjoyed by many throughout the United States. The yummy candies, the costumes whether they’re silly, scary, or pretty, the spooky stories, and so on, make October 31st a well-loved holiday.

My sister and I are going to be Anna and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen and we hope the night will be fun and filled with lots of sweets!

Since this great day is right around the corner, here’s a poem from 5th grade about Halloween. I just couldn’t wait so here it goes. Happy reading!

    Halloween is Coming Up!

    Put on your costume,

    Tonight’s the night,

    To trick-or-treat,

    The moon is bright.

    Snickers, Reese’s,

    Give me more pieces,

    Hubba Bubba Gum,

    I got a Dum Dum!

Halloween is the best of the best…

Now I need some sleep and rest!

  • Fall is Here

Fall is here and it’s finally that time of year when the leaves change into those beautiful, warm colors of red, orange, and yellow. It’s the time when the days get colder and the air gets crispy. Don’t forget the pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving and football!

All of those wonderful things that autumn brings reminded me of a poem I wrote not too long ago about fall. Enjoy!

Leaves are falling to the ground,

    Making colors all around,

The wind is light and cool and crisp

The sky is foggy with chilled mist.

The plants have begun to go to sleep

To hide away from winter’s creep,

The smell of baking pumpkin pie

As the geese take off and freely fly.

This time of year brings warmth and joy,

The leaves crunch beneath me like a broken toy,

Summers memories shall now be survived,

And welcome fall, it has arrived.
